- Ideal for an organic garden
Tomato ‘Agro’ Cordon matures early, producing good crops of flavourful elongated plum tomatoes, firm, fleshy and perfect for sauces. With good blight resistance and skins that resist splitting, it’s a prime favourite with cooks and can be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors.
Sow indoors
Level fill a module tray with seed compost firming with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Sow seeds individually and lightly cover with compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator at 18-20°C or cover tray with cling film and leave in a warm room. Keep moist.
Grow on
When shoots appear, remove cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When plants have 4 leaves transplant to 8cm pots of potting compost. Grow coolly and steadily. Minimum temperature 10°C.
Plant out
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when temperatures exceed 10°C. Sunny sheltered sites are best. Transfer to large pots, minimum 30cm, or grow bags, 45cm apart.
Tips
Cordon (Indeterminate) varieties require training up canes, strings or wires. Remove side shoots as they appear. Tomatoes are thirsty and hungry plants. Feed and water regularly and remember to ventilate your greenhouse on warm days. Pinch out the growing tip once it reaches the top of the support, allowing a maximum of 6 fruiting trusses.
