- Compact plants ideal for containers

Salvia ‘Purple Volcano’ is a small explosion of colour in summer, with delicate white flowers on dark stems bursting out from striking dark purple foliage. Compact and long-flowering, it’s perfect for a sunny container or the front of a border. The flowers are very popular with pollinators, especially bees.
Sow indoors
Sow in trays of pre-watered seed compost and cover lightly with a little soil or vermiculite. Keep at 18-21°C and allow 3-4 weeks for germination. Do not exclude light.
Grow on
When large enough to handle transplant into trays of potting compost 5cm apart, or individually into 8cm pots.
Plant out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out 30cm apart when the risk of frost has passed. Will thrive best in full sun. In the garden, plant in any well-drained soil. Use a good quality potting compost if planting in containers.
Tips
Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.
