Crab Apple Tree Malus x Floribunda
The Malus floribunda patio crab apple is a stunning dwarf variety with pale pink flowers that emerge from deep red buds in mid and late spring. These delicate blossoms are followed by small yellow-green crab apples in autumn, which are not only a food source for birds but can also be used to make delicious jelly. Known as the Japanese flowering crab apple, this variety is perfect for growing in large containers on patios, making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens.
Rootstock: M9
Height at full growth: 2-2.5m (without regular pruning)
These trees are grown and pruned to maintain a compact, neat shape, making them ideal for limited spaces or containers. To keep the tree healthy, prune during the dormant season to remove any dead, diseased, or damaged branches, and to shape the tree. For the best growth, plant in a large container with good drainage, and provide regular watering and feeding with high-potash feed during the growing season. In colder months, protect the roots by wrapping the container, and prune lightly in late winter or early spring.
