It looks stunning combined with purples and crimsons, and the long-stemmed flowers are ideal for cutting. Cosmos ‘Tango’ holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its reliable garden performance.
Sow indoors
Level fill a tray with seed compost firming with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Scatter seeds thinly, lightly covering with vermiculite or a little more compost. Place in a propagator at 18-25°C or cover tray with cling film and leave in a warm room.
Grow on
When shoots appear, remove cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart into small pots or module trays. Grow on in a minimum temperature of 10°C.
Plant out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out in full sun when risk of frost has passed. Allow 30cm between plants. Water well until established.
Aftercare
Dead head faded blooms to keep plants blooming for longer. Cosmos grow best in full sun. Feed during the summer with a liquid feed to promote healthy growth and flowers. Use good quality compost when planting in containers.
